Sonja Macys, Executive Director, Tucson Audubon

Best Birdathon Result: 149 species

2006 Target: 150 species   2006 Result: 132

Team Description: The Desert Dingbats have been together since 2002. Each year they avidly compete for the coveted “most species seen” prize, forgoing sleep and disregarding rising gas prices. Larry Liese is the team leader, “front seat spotter” and supplier of chocolate for passing the one hundred mark. “Eagle Eyes” (Linda Figueroa) is the official “backseat spotter.” Sonja Macys wields a mean clipboard and keeps the count and Barbara Heineman is at the wheel. Barbara replaced “founding Dingbat” Paul Kaestle in 2003. Past year totals include 130- 2002; 149- 2003; 139- 2004; 134- 2005. In 2006 we hope to beat the 150 mark! Sonja has promised champagne if we can do it.
