Tucson Audubon Society
Criteria for Listing Accommodations &
Guidelines for Proprietors
Background
The Tucson Audubon website has listed birder-friendly accommodations in
southeast Arizona for some time. It originated with a list that is
available in our publication, Finding Birds in Southeast Arizona.
Tucson Audubon staff decided that a formal set of criteria was needed to determine which
accommodations are eligible for listing on our website. Only businesses who
have become Community Members of Tucson Audubon will be listed. These are
the criteria that resulted:
Criteria for Listing
Birder-Friendly Accommodations:
1. Establishment is in southeast Arizona
2.
Establishment is located near known birding areas or public lands
(national forests, national monuments, etc.), OR
Establishment provides special services or resources for birders (such as
early breakfasts, sack lunches, feeder stations, wildlife-related library,
birding expertise on staff, etc.)
3.
Establishment maintains a "community
membership" in Tucson Audubon.
Accommodation Listings
For accommodations conforming to these
criteria, Tucson Audubon will list the establishment's name, address,
contact information, and other relevant information on the Accommodations
for birders provided by Business members of Tucson Audubon page, as well as on our Business members
page. Accommodations will also be considered for inclusion in future
editions of our publication Finding Birds in Southeast Arizona.
Optional Opportunities for Wider
Publicity
From time to time Tucson Audubon holds local meetings, staff retreats, or
other events throughout the southeast Arizona region. Establishments
willing to host such events would have the opportunity for greater
publicity through articles about the event in our newsletter (the Vermilion
Flycatcher) and through visitation by attendees who might not
otherwise know about the establishment. To talk about such opportunities,
contact Vivian MacKinnon,
