What is a Birdathon?
Tucson Audubon Society is the leader for southern Arizona in the quest for protecting habitats vital to birds and in educating the public about the environment around us. We are asking all of our members to be involved in this year's Birdathon; we cannot get it done without you! In fact, we're partners in the process. You can create your own team or support one of these! Bird in whatever fashion you like: from a 24-hour marathon traveling from one end of the state to the other, a car-free hike or bike ride, or a casual afternoon with friends at your favorite birding hotspot. Please remember to register your team; all registration materials can be found on this page.

Something important for you to support - our request is simple
Birdathon is about birding, having fun, and fundraising. This year fundraising will be focused on our Important Bird Areas (IBA) program (which combines conservation and education on critical bird habitats) and our broader Education program!

The IBA program is part of the global effort to identify, protect and manage the most important sites for birds and we have three very specific needs for help in this program. 1.Two new backcountry surveys will make up for our lack of knowledge of populations of birds of concern in the Galiuro and Patagonia Mountains. 2.Funds to initiate an outreach program to local residents to help them with stewardship and conservation of lands along the Lower San Pedro River IBA. 3.Funding for a Gray Hawk and kingbird nest inventory between San Manuel and Mammoth.

Our Education Program is in need of significant support this year, and we highlight three areas for your consideration: 1.Tucson Audubon's Citizen Stewardship program. 2.Tucson Audubon's Family Institutes. 3.Tucson Audubon's work through our schools and libraries.

For detailed info on how your donations will be used, see the Donor Facts Letter.

Birdathon, details, details, details!
Here's what you need to know to participate in Tucson Audubon's 21st Annual Birdathon: Register your team!! It's free, and it's the ONLY way to get invited to the Birdie Brunch!

You can register in person at our University Blvd. Nature Shop; you can register by phone at 629-0757; or you can download all registration materials on this page. Please provide a photo of your team and a write-up about your plans. We will post this information on our website, and your family and friends can donate directly to your efforts through the website.

We'll invite all registered Birdathon team members to join us for the official “Birdy Brunch” on May 31 so that we can thank you in person, birders can swap tall tales, and everyone will have an equal chance to win a fabulous prize like Vortex binoculars, gift certificates from local merchants, tickets to special events, and more.

Although the best prizes at the Birdie Brunch will be awarded via a drawing, we do have some silly/fun prizes for different categories:

Most species seen
Best (a.k.a. rarest) bird seen on Birdathon
Most Cactus Wrens seen during a Birdathon
Most life-list birds seen by a new Birdathoner
Best photograph depicting the excitement of Birdathon (turned in by May 17)
Best narrative conveying the excitement of birding (turned in by May 17)
Best team photo (silly wins the day!)
Best team poster (voted on by participants at the Birdie Brunch)
Most money raised by a team (turned in by May 23)
Most individual sponsors for a team

Participants must RSVP for the Birdy Brunch by May 20 so we can be sure to have enough food and prizes, we've already got the fun, we just need you to share it with!
