Audubon at Home in Arizona
Audubon at Home in Arizona - Pdf of the full new poster! Audubon At Home in Arizona: reducing our footprint. Loss, fragmentation and degradation of habitats result in less diverse natural communities, often with reduced population sizes of many species of animals and plants. Most habitat loss and degradation occurs on private land, which makes up around 60 percent of the land available for wildlife habitat across the United States. Much of this land is in agricultural production, and 2.1 million acres are converted to residential use every year. As a result, individual landowners and consumers are directly connected to the future health and quality of our broader environment. The Audubon At Home program engages people to take specific conservation actions at home, in their yards, and in their communities to enhance and increase habitats that birds need for their survival, and to create healthy surroundings for people as well. Audubon At Home envisions a world where our daily actions sustain birds, other wildlife, and a healthy environment. The program aims to sustain birds, other wildlife, and healthy habitats by inspiring people to incorporate conservation choices and actions into their daily lives. And it has four specific goals, namely to:
Audubon chapters throughout our state will develop programs to achieve these goals. Already the Arizona Audubon Council, through its chair, Krys Hammers, and in cooperation with National Audubon staff, has taken the lead to develop a new poster for our state. Tucson Audubon's Kendall Kroesen and Paul Green contributed by developing the text; Karen Stucke painted an image of a wildlife-friendly backyard; and Eng-Li Green pulled it all together and designed the poster.
