Conservation Programs & Issues

Tucson Audubon's conservation work focuses on riparian habitat and Sonoran Desert uplands. An enormous amount of riparian habitat has been lost in our region in the last 100 years due to grazing, groundwater pumping, river canalization, farming and urban development. In addition, upland desert plant communities (e.g., ironwood-saguaro, paloverde-saguaro) are being lost at an alarming rate due to urban sprawl. Tucson Audubon's Conservation Committee, made up of board members and staffers, meets monthly to discuss conservation issues and policy. You can find Tucson Audubon information and positions on various issues by browsing below by topic, or by going to this list.
