Tucson Audubon wants to bring birding to the
masses by encouraging people to start
birding walks in the urban area. The idea is to reach out to beginners and families in
local communities around Tucson, and all trips are free. We hope to expand this program to other
urban locations as well. To start an urban bird walk near your
neighborhood, or to volunteer to lead an urban bird walk, contact Kendall
Kroesen, 206-9900.
Urban birding walks are an attempt to get more
people involved in birding, and to raise awareness of Tucson Audubon in
the community. We already offer more birding fieldtrips than any other
Audubon chapter, but there are a lot of people they do not reach. These
new walks bring birding right to people’s own neighborhoods. They start
at a reasonable hour, do not last a long time, and welcome families and
people with low mobility.
The walks will be especially good for beginners
in that they will focus on common urban birds. However, because these
locations have a wide variety of birds, they also offer good birding to
intermediate and advanced birders. Loaner binoculars usually will be
available.
