Another Mason Audubon Center Naturalist Training has drawn to a close with the graduation of thirteen dedicated people! Doris Evans led the training sessions, imparting her knowledge and humor, and providing wonderful munchies while educating the participants in Sonoran Desert natural history from A to Z. We were also privileged to have three additional presenters. Carl Olson, Associate Curator of Entomology at the U of A, brought his expertise and fantastic humor to his arthropod lecture. Wendy Burroughs, Environmental Education Program Manager for Pima County Natural Resources Parks and Recreation, with her live birds, illustrated some specifics of bird behavior, and Ed Moll, a retired professor of zoology gave a wonderful presentation and DVD show about herps (reptiles and amphibians)! Thank you to all the instructors who made a very successful training program fun and informative. Please help us welcome the newest MAC Naturalists.

Jo-Ann Cattaneo recently relocated to Arizona from New Jersey and enjoys birdwatching, traveling, the arts, reading and meeting new people. She is looking forward to serving as a naturalist. Kerrah Cutter moved to Tucson in January 2004 to become an AmeriCorps member. She is an avid herp breeder and keeper and is an aspiring zoologist/herpetologist. Rosalie Emmons has been a birder for over 40 years. She grew up in the Great Basin Desert and for the last five years has lived in and learned about the Sonoran Desert. Jess Guffey is a massage therapist and has lived in Tucson for about two years. She has a strong interest in botany and herbal medicine. Susan Hess is a native Tucsonan(!) with a background in geosciences and hydrology. She enjoys photography, hiking, canoe trips, birding, reading and sewing. Ryan Koch is currently enrolled in Prescott College’s Adult Degree Program studying Outdoor Education. Born and raised in Tucson, he is definitely a desert rat and he loves the Sonoran Desert. Ceci Lou currently works as an administrator at Pima Community College. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, spending time with friends, learning about whatever she can and spending quality time with her dog. Ingrid McCarty is currently working as a cytotechnologist. She lived in Oklahoma and Colorado before moving to Arizona ten years ago. She is a birdwatcher, bicyclist and artist. Aaron Pié is originally from the Pittsburgh area but has lived in the Sonoran Desert for about 20 years. He is interested in becoming more involved in conservation efforts. Sara Pike has a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Marketing from the U of A. Her hobbies include birdwatching, hiking, scrap-booking, reading, and enjoying nature! Jonathan Seely comes to MAC after retirement from the U of A; his background is in English Language and Linguistics. He is a member of the SAR (road running) and SANC (hiking) and is a docent at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Sonya Valentin is a family therapist at a local hospital. She loves hiking, birdwatching and anything to do with natural history. Diana Videtti has lived in Tucson since 1979 and loves the Sonoran Desert with its unique plants and animals.
